So, I’ve been wanting to remake that classic Prada Galleria Saffiano bag for a while now. You know, the medium-sized one. It’s just so timeless and chic. I finally decided, what the heck, let’s do it!

First things first, I gotta get that Saffiano leather. That stuff is pretty unique with that crosshatch pattern thing going on, and it’s supposed to be super tough. I managed to find some that felt pretty similar to the real deal. It’s got that waxy finish, and it feels like it will last forever. That’s important because I don’t want to have to make this thing again for a long time. I’m ready to move on to other projects, you know?

Next up, I spent some serious time studying the actual Prada bag. I looked at a ton of pictures online, watched a couple of videos, and then I decided to use my friend’s bag. I wanted to see how it was put together, where the seams were, and how the hardware was attached. It was a real eye-opener, noticing all those little details you don’t normally think about.

Then came the fun part – or the frustrating part, depending on how you look at it. Cutting the leather. I made a pattern based on my notes and the measurements I took. It was a bit of a puzzle, trying to figure out how all the pieces would fit together. There were so many pieces! I had to be super careful to cut straight lines and make sure everything was symmetrical. One wrong cut, and the whole thing could be messed up.

Once all the pieces were cut, I started sewing them together. This was definitely the most time-consuming part. I used my trusty old sewing machine, and it was a bit of a struggle with the thick leather. I broke a few needles along the way, not going to lie. The trickiest part was getting the corners to look nice and sharp. It took a lot of patience and some serious seam ripping, let me tell you.

After what felt like forever, the main body of the bag was done. Then I had to attach the handles and the lining. The lining was a bit easier than the outside because the fabric was way thinner. For the handles, I made sure they were super secure, because nobody wants their bag handles falling off, right?

The last step was adding the hardware. I found some buckles and things that looked pretty close to the real Prada ones. I also added a little “PRADA” and “MADE IN ITALY” stamp on the inside. I don’t know if it looks the same as the real thing. I only put two lines, because I heard that if it is more than two lines, it is a fake. Attaching them was a bit fiddly, but I finally got it done.

The Final Result

And there you have it! My very own homemade Prada Galleria bag. It’s not perfect, of course. There are a few little imperfections here and there, but overall, I’m pretty darn proud of it. It looks really close to the original, and it feels amazing to carry around something I made with my own two hands.

Would I do it again? Honestly, probably not anytime soon. It was a lot of work! But it was also a really cool learning experience. I definitely have a new appreciation for all the work that goes into making these designer bags. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go show off my new bag!
