Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this PRADA Large Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag for a while now. You know, the big, classy one that just screams “I have my life together”? Yeah, that one. I finally decided to take the plunge and try to remake one, specifically an “original order” version.
I started by digging around online, trying to find out everything I could about this bag. I mean, this thing is iconic, right? It’s been around since 1913, that classic PRADA design. I needed to know the details, the feel, the everything. I searched forums, watched videos, read reviews – anything I could get my hands on. I needed to learn about the leather.
Then came the tricky part – finding the right materials. I mean, Saffiano leather isn’t just any leather. It’s got that special texture, that durability. I spent days, probably weeks, hunting down the perfect Saffiano leather. I ordered samples, felt them, compared them, and then make the final decision.
- Find the leather: This was maybe the hardest part. I checked with so many suppliers, ordered samples, felt them all, and finally found one that felt right.
- Get the hardware: The gold-tone hardware had to be perfect, I checked online and found some really good quality ones.
- Pattern time: This was a headache, no lie. I messed up a few times, but eventually, I got a pattern I was happy with.
Next, I started cutting the leather. Let me tell you, cutting into that beautiful Saffiano was nerve-wracking! But I measured twice, cut once, and hoped for the best. Then I started to put it together, started sewing, I’m not a pro, that’s for sure. It took some practice, some seam ripping, and a lot of patience, but it’s getting there.
After sewing, I started to add the hardware to make it look the same. It’s not a quick process at all, It took a couple of days just to make sure all the rivets were in the right place and secure.
Finally, after what felt like forever, I had a bag. It’s not perfect, not 100% like the real deal, but it’s mine. I made it. And honestly, I’m pretty darn proud of it. And it looks really good, if I do say so myself. It was tough, but worth it!
Is It a Success?
For me, absolutely. I learned a ton, got to work with some amazing materials, and ended up with a bag that I love. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was a lot of work, but hey, maybe next time I’ll try a different PRADA. Who knows!
