Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake a bag for a while, and I finally did it. I decided to go with the Prada Re-Edition 1995 Chaine Re-Nylon Mini-Bag. It’s a classic, you know? But I wanted to make it my own.

First, I started by gathering all my materials. I needed some Re-Nylon fabric, which is basically recycled nylon. It’s super important to use this stuff because it’s sustainable and all that. I managed to find some online after a bit of searching, that was quite a pain. I also got some chain handles, a leather key ring—just like the original—and some metal hardware. I wanted it to look as close to the real deal as possible, you know?

Then, I began working on the body of the bag. I carefully measured and cut the Re-Nylon. I am not the best at cutting in straight lines, but I think I did alright. The original bag has this cool padding and top-stitching, so I tried to replicate that. It was my first time doing that, so let’s just say it took a few tries to get it right. I used my old sewing machine, it’s not fancy, but it gets the job done. The stitching part was honestly a bit frustrating. I kept messing up, but hey, I learned from it. I had to rip out the seams and start over a couple of times, can you believe it?

  • Cut the Re-Nylon fabric according to the measurements.
  • Add padding and top-stitching to give it that signature look.
  • Sew the pieces together to form the body of the bag.

After I sewed all the pieces together, I added the chain handles. I had to thread some leather through the chain links. This was a bit fiddly, but it made the handles look really nice and sturdy. I also attached the leather key ring. This was pretty simple, just had to make sure it was secure.

The final step was adding the metal hardware. I put the Prada logo on the front, which was the most nerve-wracking part. I didn’t want to mess it up after all that work! The bag looks casual, it summarized Prada codes, I think. It has a timeless charm, a re-edition of an archive design.

It took me a while to finish the whole thing, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine. And I learned a lot in the process. If you’re thinking about remaking a bag, I say go for it! Just be prepared for some challenges along the way. It’s a fun project, and you end up with something unique and special.

I can wear it with almost anything. It’s just the right size for my phone, wallet, and keys. Plus, I feel good knowing I made it myself and that it’s made from recycled materials. I will wear it for a long time. I can give it to someone else if I don’t want it one day. I hope I won’t get bored of it.

Materials I used:

  • Re-Nylon fabric
  • Chain handles with leather
  • Leather key ring
  • Metal hardware
