This here bag, they call it the YSL College Bag, it’s a real fancy one. I seen them city girls carrying them, all shiny and new. They say it’s from across the big water, someplace called “Original order”. Sounds important, I reckon.
Now, I ain’t one for fancy things, but I gotta say, this bag, it’s got somethin’ to it. It ain’t too big, ain’t too small. Just right for carryin’ your things, you know? Like when you gotta go to the market, or maybe to visit Mildred down the road. It’s what they call “compact”, which I guess means it fits a lot in a little space. That’s good, ’cause nobody wants to be luggin’ around a big ol’ sack.
They got all sorts of these YSL bags, I hear. Some are little bitty things, just big enough for a handkerchief and a couple of coins. They call them “clutch” bags. And some are bigger, with straps to go over your shoulder. I seen one that cost more than my whole house! Seven thousand dollars, can you believe it? For a bag! My old man would have a fit if he heard that.

- Not too flashy, but still pretty.
- And it looks like it’d hold up real good, too.
- Not like some of those cheap things that fall apart after you use ’em a few times.
I heard a young lady talking about this other YSL bag, called a “Kate” bag. She was sayin’ she wanted the medium one, with silver. Like the kind you see on them fancy belt buckles. She was tryin’ to figure out where to get it. Said somethin’ about “Selfridges” and “Gilt”. Sounds like places where they sell fancy things. I wouldn’t know. I get my bags at the five and dime. But she must be set on gettin’ it, if she’s lookin’ in all them places. Reminds me to check price before buying.
They say this YSL College Bag is “versatile”. I think that means you can use it for all sorts of things. Like I said, goin’ to the market, or visitin’ friends. Or maybe even to church on Sunday. It’s a good all-around bag, I guess you could say. Not like some of them bags that are only good for one thing. Like that sparkly one Mildred’s daughter has. She only takes it out for special occasions. This College bag, you could use it every day.
These young folks and their YSL bags, though. Always wantin’ the newest, shiniest thing. I remember when a bag was just a bag. Somethin’ to carry your things in. Didn’t matter what it looked like, as long as it did the job. But I guess times change. And these YSL bags, they do seem like they’re made pretty good. Might even last a lifetime, if you take care of ’em.
This “Original order” thing, though. I don’t rightly know what that means. Maybe it means it’s the real deal. Not some knock-off like you see sometimes. I seen a woman once, carryin’ a bag that looked just like one of these fancy ones. But when you got up close, you could see it was just a cheap imitation. This “Original order” must mean it’s the real thing, straight from the people who make ’em. Make sure not buying fakes.
YSL College Bag seems like a good choice. And functional. I heard that word from my grand kids.
I heard that even the rich folks over there are buyin’ these bags. Guess they got good taste, just like us. Or maybe they just like showin’ off. Either way, it’s a nice bag. If I had the money, I might even get one for myself. But then again, my old cloth bag does just fine. It’s got a few holes in it, and the strap is startin’ to fray, but it’s still holdin’ up. Just like me, I reckon.

But these bags, especially this YSL College Bag, I don’t think they will out of style quickly. They looks good.
