Okay, so, I saw this watch online – the Rolex GMT-Master II Left-Handed Version. My neighbor’s kid, he’s always talking about watches, he said this one was special, a “lefty” he called it. Looked cool, so I figured, why not try to make one myself?
First, I needed to find a watch that kind of looked like it. I found some suggestions that looked pretty similar, I went with the Tudor Black Bay GMT. It has that classic diver look, you know? I ordered it from a place online, took a few days to arrive. I like the look of it.
Then came the tricky part. The Rolex has this thing where the crown, that little knob you use to set the time, is on the left side. Most watches have it on the right. So I had to flip the whole movement around. I took the back off, took the whole thing apart. It was a bit of a pain, tiny screws everywhere, but I managed it.
- Step one: Get a watch that looks similar. I used the Tudor Black Bay GMT.
- Step two: Take it apart. Be careful with the tiny parts!
- Step three: Flip the movement so the crown is on the left. This was the hardest part.
Putting it back together was easier, thankfully. I had taken a bunch of pictures while I was taking it apart, so I just followed those in reverse. Once it was all back together, I wound it up and, hey, it worked! The crown was on the left, just like the Rolex. It’s not perfect, it doesn’t have the Rolex name or anything, but it looks pretty close. And it was way cheaper than buying a real one. I heard those can cost like $6! Crazy, right?
Did it look like the real deal?
Yeah, pretty much! Except for the branding, of course. But the left-handed crown, the overall shape, it was close enough. I’m not trying to fool anyone, it’s just a fun project. And hey, now I have a cool, unique watch that I made myself. Not bad for a weekend project, huh?
