Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar watch for a while now. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s a classic. But the price tag on a brand new one? Forget about it! So, I started digging around to see if I could find a decent pre-owned or, dare I say, an imitation one.
First, I hit up all the usual online spots that sell used watches. I found a few listings for pre-owned versions of this beauty, and they were in pretty good shape, like near-mint condition, apparently. They were mostly stainless steel, around 39mm, which seemed like a good size. But even used, these things were still pretty pricey. It got me thinking, are these watches even a good investment? I did some more digging and it seems like, yeah, some limited editions and vintage ones can be, but most just kinda lose a bit of value over time. Not a deal-breaker, but good to know.
Finding an Imitation
Then I started looking into imitations. I know, I know, it’s not the same as the real deal, but hear me out. The prices were way more in my ballpark. I stumbled upon one that looked pretty darn close to the original. Same size, 39mm diameter, and about 9.4mm thick. The listing said it was like 45.7mm lug-to-lug. Looked decent from pictures at least. There’s also another one is 40mm case is 10.95mm thick.
Honestly, at this point, I was just trying to figure out what kind of person even buys a Jaeger-LeCoultre. From what I gathered, it’s someone who’s into quality, precision, and tradition, you know? Not someone who just picks up any old watch. It’s a statement piece, for sure.
So, after all this searching and thinking, I finally pulled the trigger on the imitation. I mean i just want to buy it and try, after all, who can tell the difference from outside? It arrived a few days ago, and honestly, I’m pretty happy with it. It looks great on my wrist, and for the price, I really can’t complain. Is it the same as owning a real Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar? Probably not. But for now, it’s scratching that itch, and that’s good enough for me. I just wear it for fun.
