Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Prada lately, and I really wanted to get my hands on their Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s such a classic! I decided to roll up my sleeves and try to remake a smaller version of it myself, inspired by those available in specialty stores.

First off, I gathered all the materials I needed. Since the original is made of Saffiano leather, I went hunting for something similar. It’s this genuine leather that’s been treated and embossed, so it doesn’t really get that patina over time, which I found interesting. But yeah, it’s different from full-grain leather, thicker and treated, you know?

Then, I started working on the structure. I noticed the bag has this cool triangle logo and two rolled top handles, and I definitely wanted to include those. I also added an adjustable handle wrap because, why not? It’s all about the details, right? And for practicality, I made sure to have an adjustable and detachable shoulder strap. I mean, options are always good!

  • Got the Saffiano-like leather.
  • Crafted the rolled top handles.
  • Attached the triangle logo (it was a bit tricky, but I managed).
  • Made an adjustable handle wrap and a detachable shoulder strap.

For the closure, I kept it simple with an open top, but I added two zip-fastening compartments on the sides for some extra security. I saw some designs have this colour-block thing going on, but I stuck to a single color for a more classic look.

I spent a good chunk of time on this project, trying to get everything just right. And you know what? I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! It’s not exactly like the ones you’d buy from the store for a few grand, but it’s got that same vibe, that same elegance. Plus, it was way cheaper, and I got to say “I made this” whenever someone compliments it, which is super cool.

Final Touches

After finishing the main parts, I went over everything to make sure the stitching was solid and the leather was holding up well. I even treated the leather to protect it a bit more. It was a lot of work, but seeing the finished bag made it all worth it. I’m no professional, but this little project of mine really made me appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into these luxury bags.
