Finding the Parts

I hit up all sorts of online marketplaces and forums. There’s a whole community of watch nerds out there, it’s crazy! I found some decent parts, but it wasn’t easy.

- Dial: I lucked out and found a dial that had a similar blue gradient. It’s not perfect, but it captures that classic look.
- Movement: I’m no watchmaker, so I opted for a reliable automatic movement. I figured, as long as it tells time, that’s good enough for me.
- Bracelet: I found a stainless steel bracelet that sort of matched the original. Again, not perfect, but it’ll do.
Putting it all Together
Then came the really fun part – putting it all together. I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous. I’ve never done anything like this before! I bought some basic watchmaking tools and just went for it. There were definitely some “oops” moments, but I managed to get it all assembled. It took a few tries, and a whole lot of patience, but I finally did it.
The end result? Well, it’s not a real Patek Philippe, obviously. But it’s my Patek Philippe. And you know what? I’m pretty darn proud of it. It’s not perfect, but it’s got that classic Nautilus look that I love. Every time I look at it, I remember the whole journey of making it. From the hours spent staring at pictures, to the thrill of finding the right parts, to the satisfaction of finally putting it all together.
It’s not just a watch, it’s a reminder that you can create anything you set your mind to. Even if it’s just a humble remake of a legendary timepiece. I wear it with pride.
